The Development Bank of Kazakhstan (a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding) participated in the ENERGY TRENDS: Gas & Petrochemicals annual conference, held by the public foundation Energy Monitor. The panel sessions focused on the development of Kazakhstan's gas transportation industry. Topics included the expansion and construction of new gas pipeline branches, the further development of gas chemistry in Kazakhstan, as well as geological exploration and capital projects in the gas sector.
At the panel session on "Gas as an impetus for socio-economic development of the economy", representatives from DBK discussed the importance of the industry to the Bank's mission and available financial instruments for supporting projects in the gas sector.
"The Bank offers a wide range of financial instruments adapted to the needs of various industries. Therefore, DBK supports large industrial and infrastructure projects by providing financing from its own funds, through government programs, and via syndicated lending mechanisms. It also offers guarantees and arranges related financing with the involvement of foreign banks and financial institutions", said Yerlan Ibrayev, DBK Senior banker.
Among the Bank's key projects in the field of oil refining and petrochemistry are the modernization of refineries in Pavlodar, Shymkent, the West Kazakhstan region, as well as the refinery in Atyrau. The Bank’s support for refinery modernization significantly increased the depth of oil processing, enabled the production of valuable products such as benzene and paraxylene, and facilitated the transition to more environmentally friendly types of fuel. In total, more than 7,000 jobs were created at these enterprises. The refineries are major taxpayers in Kazakhstan. According to last year’s data, tax payments exceeded 480 billion tenge.
