The Roadmap was developed with the grant support of the Asian Development Bank based on the best international practices for the implementation of the principles of sustainable development. The document contains concrete steps for the implementation of ESG principles, including, for example, the creation of a special working group for the implementation of all designated tasks and the preparation of a portfolio of the projects that meet the criteria of ESG. In addition, to strengthen human resources, it is planned to involve the Bank's employees in ESG training events and forums.
“More and more companies are focusing on sustainable development in their work. The ESG agenda is not only a requirement of time, but also opens new opportunities for companies in the long term,” comments Nurlan Baibazarov, Chairman of DBK Board.
It should be noted in accordance with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure (or TCFD), the Bank will prepare the special reports. This will further increase the transparency of DBK for all stakeholders.
Currently, the Bank pays special attention to the principles of sustainable development through green financing, promotion of gender equality and inclusivity.
Thus, on March 29, the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) held auctions for the placement of the first issue of green bonds of Development Bank of Kazakhstan. The volume of the placement amounted to 10 billion tenge, and the funds raised were used to purchase green bonds of KEGOC. They, in turn, are used to modernize the unified energy system of Kazakhstan.
The Bank has made a significant contribution to the development of the renewable energy sector by financing nine renewable energy projects. In addition, in 2019, the Bank approved a Sustainable Development Policy. According to this policy, DBK follows the principles of careful and rational attitude to the environment. The Bank strives to apply the best international practices in the field of environmental protection and the social impact of the funded projects.
